Resumen |
Greece has been suffering a major financial crisis since 2009. This crisis has had a significant impact on the provision of health-care services, affecting university hospitals as well as primary health-care facilities.1,2 We hypothesized that the financial crisis has also affected the productivity of biomedical research conducted in Greece. Biomedical research productivity in Greece has been steadily rising in the recent past; specifically, from 1995 to 2005, an increase of 238% was observed in the ratio of yearly published Greek articles to total world articles.3 We conducted a bibliometric analysis, following a methodology as previously reported.3 In short, we searched the PubMed and Scopus databases for journal articles with a Greek affiliation and compared them with the respective global values for the period 1995-2011. |
