Resumen |
Health system reforms are recommended as part of the European Semester, as a means to jointly achieve fiscal consolidation and increase efficiency, and therefore some Member States have included this in their National Reform Programmes (NRPs). The Council has asked Member States to implement health, care reforms (AT, CY, and the NL regarding long, term care), curb age, related health expenditure (BE, BG), or enhance the efficiency (DE) or quality (BG) of public spending in health care . As the European Semester and the process of EU economic governance are a new topic for health actors, the European Public Health Alliance has developed a briefing on the role of health in achieving Europe 202 0 goals 1 and a Call to Action for health actors to be involved in Economic Governance 2 . The EPHA briefing on health in achieving Europe 202 0 goals details the different mechanisms used to coordinate fiscal and economic policy to achieve Europe 2020 targets. The Call to Action details lessons learned from other civil society sectors on being involved in economic governance at the European level. In this position paper, the EPHA sets out its position on the health systems reforms currently under way and our goal is for this to be used as a tool for health actors to advocate for reforms to health systems that do not comprise the objectives of health systems and values in health |
