Resumen |
The financial crisis that afflicted Greece three years ago found the Greek mental health care in a transitional period. Following a large-scale reform effort that started in the mid 1980s, the establishment of psychiatric units in general hospitals along with the operation of community services and de-institutionalization facilities had been achieved to a significant extent [1] and [2]. However, developments were still ongoing, especially in areas such as development of primary care policies and establishment of fully developed mental health networks within each psychiatric sector [2]. In this context, psychiatric units in general hospitals presently constitute the cornerstone of Greek mental health care. |
